CBC Grade 7 Notes What are veins?

What is the Function of Veins
Veins are elastic blood vessels that transport deoxygenated blood from the body’s tissues back to the heart (except for pulmonary veins, which carry oxygenated blood). They are characterized by one-way valves that prevent backward flow and are classified into deep and superficial types
What is the Function of Veins?
Usage Examples & Functions
- Blood Transport: Veins transport deoxygenated blood from tissues and organs back to the heart.
- Oxygen Supply: Pulmonary veins carry oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart.
- Circulation Management: They store about 70–75% of the body’s blood volume, acting as a reservoir.
- Preventing Backflow: Internal one-way valves ensure blood flows in only one direction toward the heart.
- Medical Access: Veins, such as the jugular vein, provide access for intravenous (IV) lines
